Seek legal protection if you're leaving an abusive relationship

Being in a marriage that includes abuse of any sort is a challenge. Not only do you have to deal with the physical aspects of the situation, but you'll also have to try to work through the emotional ones. All of this can take a considerable toll on you. In some cases, the abuse has gotten you to the point that you believe you can't survive without the abusive spouse.

Leaving a relationship in which you were abused can be almost as difficult as dealing with the abuse. It might make things easier if you plan your exit ahead of time, but you can only do this if you aren't in immediate danger of physical harm or death.

For some individuals who are dealing with this situation, the fear of their partner's temper if they walk away is what is keeping them there. If this is the type of situation that you're dealing with, you have options that might help you to remain safer. An order of protection will work in some cases. This is a court order that requires the abuser to remain a specific distance from you and to avoid contact with you.

We realize that some people who are walking away from an abusive relationship might need to file for a divorce and seek legal protection from the Pennsylvania courts. We're here to help our clients with those aspects of the split so they can attempt to be as safe as possible while working on starting their ne3ly single life on the best financial footing as possible.
