Many residents of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, closely follow the lives of their NFL idols on and off of the football field. While some of the star players are able to keep their personal lives out of the spotlight, others have had to face controversies arising from bad decisions.
For instance, police recently arrested New York Giants safety Will Hill on charges of failure to pay child support. It is unclear which of his four children's three mothers is seeking child support. Hill is going through a divorce with his current wife, Leisa Bold.
Paying child support on time is important because it helps the custodial parent pay for whatever the child needs. Without the child support, the custodial parent has to rely on his or her own finances, which may not be sufficient.
Philadelphia family court judges determine the amount of child support based on different considerations, including as the parents' income and the child's needs. Once the amount of child support is determined, the noncustodial parent has to comply. Disregarding a child support order constitutes contempt of court, which is punishable by the law.
Both parents have the right to request child support modification if circumstances warrant it. The needs of the child can increase over time. The supporting parent may also face financial trouble, which can limit his or her ability to pay child support. In such a case, the financially troubled parent may wish to consult an experienced family law attorney to learn about the available options to get the payment modified.
